Director, Grants and Sponsored Program Accounting
Job Description:
Full-time, year-round position responsible for coordinating grants accounting and reporting. Position will perform and coordinate the analysis, reconciliations and reports of self, Senior Accountant, and Accounting Specialist Grants and Projects. Position to assist the Assistant Controller in coordinating staff to achieve departmental functions and goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leads the College's grants accounting functions, including direct oversight of assigned grants, guidance to staff supporting grants, and supervision of grant personnel.
- Maintains current knowledge of federal and state grant regulations and ensures compliance by incorporating updates into College procedures.
- Serves as a liaison with grant auditors and monitors, representing the College's financial position during audits and reviews.
- Maintains knowledge of working with Operating Expense Funds (OEF) forms and processes up to and including the performance of cash draws as a backup.
- Partners with department staff to manage monthly accounting activities, fixed asset reconciliation, accounts payable and receivable reconciliations, financial aid reconciliations to federal systems, and preparation and archival of journal entries, adjustments, and financial reports.
- Reviews activity across all funds and identifies and escalates any inconsistencies or irregularities to the Controller. This role includes reviewing activity within Funds 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, investigating variances, recommending and implementing corrective actions, and preparing the necessary adjustments to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Assists as backup to meet month-end closing deadlines as needed. Acts as backup person to reconcile the College's monthly bank statement.
- Manages cash activities related to Distributive Aid and G5 grant programs, including Student Financial Aid. Provides backup support for capital cash forecasting related to OEF funding. Collaborates with Financial Aid and Student Accounting to ensure compliance with grantor requirements.
- Provides support to the Assistant Controller on Foundation related accounting matters.
- Assures that all areas under supervision are fully accountable and in complete compliance with all rules, regulations, statutes, and laws.
- Contributes to unit planning, assessment, and college institutional effectiveness efforts.
- Acts in accordance with local, state, and federal laws/regulations as well as College policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Educational: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a Bachelor's degree in a related field with a concentration in accounting from an institutionally accredited organization required.
Experiential: A minimum of three (3) years' accounting experience required. Demonstrated working knowledge of modern office equipment and technology, methods and procedures required. Computer experience using Windows-based application software required. Demonstrated ability to work independently required. Experience in processing grants and/or non-profit, accounting strongly preferred.
