The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin), a member of the Association for American Universities and one of the nation’s premier centers for academic excellence, seeks an Assistant Vice President for Research (AVP), Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP). The AVP will provide inspirational, strategic, and operational leadership to one of the nation's leading schools for research. Based within the Office of the Vice President for Research, Scholarship, and Creative Endeavors, the AVP is responsible for leading all sponsored research administration in support of the research mission of the University. The AVP reports to the Vice President for Research and works closely with key stakeholders across the University to ensure the highest level of service to the UT Austin research community. Serving as the chief administrative officer for the Office of Sponsored Projects, the AVP will be a seasoned research administrator with a vested interest in mentorship, management, and visionary leadership to ensure that OSP is a best-in-class operation and is recognized for providing innovative and high-value guidance on the conduct of sponsored research at UT Austin.

Over the last 10 years, UT Austin has increased sponsored project funding by more than 50%, for a total of $786M in 2022. The Office of Sponsored Projects encompasses pre-award (proposal administration), contracting (award negotiation, sub-awards, ancillary non-financial research agreements), and post-award (billing, funds management, reporting). Additionally, the OSP provides support and oversees sponsored project activity for the Dell Medical School.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated success in implementing new policies, procedures, and business processes, and have comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of research administration in a complex university. A transparent and enthusiastic communicator, the AVP will collaboratively develop and implement a vision for the Office of Sponsored Projects’ future, establish and pursue clear strategic priorities, and cultivate a team within OSP to advance those priorities.
