The typical base salary range for this position is $275,000 – $315,000.

The University of Nevada, Reno (University) seeks a strategic, collaborative leader with a strong financial background and experience working in complex organizations for the Vice President, Administration and Finance (VPAF).
The Vice President, Administration and Finance at the University of Nevada, Reno, the state’s original Land Grant Institution, is responsible for executive level leadership in planning and implementing financial and administrative services. The VPAF oversees approximately 400 employees engaged in budget and planning, business and finance, human resources, facilities services/parking, real estate, and police services/organizational resilience.
The individual develops long term cost-effective business and financial strategies to support initiatives, analyzes data to make sound decisions, recommends operational efficiencies, forecasts revenue projections, determines the fiscal impact of state budget allocations, and represents the University’s interest in various internal and external constituent groups. The VPAF is highly engaged with the Nevada System of Higher Education, the State of Nevada budget offices, and the Nevada State Legislature, representing the President in these and other high-level community forums.
As a member of the President's Cabinet, the Vice President of Administration and Finance works as part of a team to set the overall direction of the University through consultation with the members of the Cabinet on University-wide issues. The VPAF must anticipate and respond to challenges and opportunities in higher education and advise the President.
Administration and Finance
The Vice President of Administration and Finance oversees approximately 400 employees engaged in budget and planning, business and finance, human resources, facilities services/parking, real estate, and police services/organizational resilience.
The Budget Office includes seven employees. They oversee the strategic planning, development, and management of all state and self-supporting operating budgets of the University. Also, they lead the development and subsequent monitoring of the university’s biennial state budget. The daily operations consist of maintaining revised budget by processing approved budget changes throughout the year, coordinating budget systems and procedures with all campus units, and preparing various financial tables, reports, and analysis. Through a variety of analytic activities, the Office also provides information to support the university leadership’s decision-making.
Business and Finance includes approximately 80 personnel and is responsible for the business operations of the University, including financial and management reporting, contract management, financial ERP system (Workday) monitoring and security, Business Center North (BCN) procurement services for six northern campuses, campus card, project management and central receiving and mail. The department is made up of the following:
Controller
The Controller’s Office is responsible for providing effective management, accountability, and custody of the financial assets of the University. The Office is responsible for preparation of the University’s financial statements in addition to ensuring compliance with federal, state and NSHE requirements for accounting and financial management. The cashier’s office operations and nonresident alien tax services are part of the services provided by the Office.
Accounting Services and Decision Support
This division provides accounting services support, including accounts payable, purchasing card and travel; enterprise data management, including system integrations; management reporting and analysis; and shared services support for the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) payroll services state-wide.
Project Management and Campus Card
This division supports project management for process improvement initiatives and special projects, oversees the Workday helpdesk and security requests, management of the University’s campus card program.
BCN Purchasing and Central Services
The division manages procurement and solicitations for six northern campus, including the University and is responsible for ensuring compliance with State of Nevada and Federal regulations and NSHE and University policies and procedures. It also manages central receiving, which includes surplus property, mail and receiving, and the BCN copier program.
The HR team works closely with campus organizations to achieve operational and strategic objectives by actively seeking efficiency, creative solutions, technical innovation and consistency. The combined expertise of the team, approximately 45 internal and 50 external HR partners, cover all matters related to human resources and are responsive to the pace of change in higher education and employment market trends. Through collaborative and supportive relationships, the HR team creates short-term and long-term solutions to the complex organizational challenges experienced in the organization. By leveraging workforce and market data, and making the information available to decision-makers, the HR team supports the organizational response to both internal and external forces of change. HR is a strategic resource to the institutional community to innovate, collaborate, and educate on recruitment, risk and insurance management, compensation and benefits, talent acquisition, retention and employment matters.
Human Resources serves the 8,000 employees of University of Nevada, Reno and Business Center North (BCN). BCN HR Shared Services provides services to 3,000 employees at six Northern Nevada institutions of the Nevada System of Higher Education. Services include Human Resources, Benefits, Workers Compensation, and Risk Management. HR Shared Services has delegated authority by the State Division of Human Resources Management for Classified recruitment, classification of positions, employment operations, and employee relations.
Facilities Services Department (FSD) includes approximately 200 personnel in three functional areas: Facilities Maintenance, Planning and Construction, and Accounting and Business Services.
The FSD is responsible for the operation, maintenance, design and construction of campus facilities including all academic and administrative buildings, utility systems and infrastructure. The Facilities Maintenance unit maintains 150 buildings and structures containing approximately 4.3 million square feet of space on the main campus and other satellite locations; the Planning and Construction unit averages 330 distinct projects annually, with an average of $71M in expenditures; and the Accounting and Business Services unit includes FSD accounting, human resources, safety, space, system administration, and business operations services.
The department is a full-service police department comprised of patrol operations, administration, and a detective division. Services include a canine program, walking and bicycle patrols, and a pro-active, selective traffic enforcement program, and takes a leadership role in preparing the institutions of Northern Nevada to respond to large-scale crises and events. The department comprises 61 employees (27 full-time sworn officers, six part-time sworn, 26 non-sworn, and one student employee).
The patrol area for UPDNC encompasses all Nevada System of Higher Education facilities and property in Northern Nevada.
The Office of Community and Real Estate Management is responsible for:
Oversite of all contracting and management of real property statewide
Acquisition/disposition of real estate
Entitlement and master plan adherence
Future campus, community and strategic real property planning in conjunction with University administration
Public private partnership evaluation, implementation, and management (P-3)
Liaison to Vice President of Governmental/Community Affairs: Reno/Sparks/Washoe County
Federal lands/BLM /state real estate strategy relations
BCN/NSHE strategic support of real estate initiatives and management
University chair representation for the Downtown Reno Partnership, Business Improvement District (BID)
