Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), one of the nation's leading research universities, invites inquiries, nominations and expressions of interest for the role of Vice Dean for Finance and Administration (Vice Dean) for CWRU's School of Medicine. This leader is the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the School of Medicine and a prominent role on the Dean's Leadership Team.
CWRU's School of Medicine is the intellectual glue for health education and research faculty across Cleveland's academic medical centers—Cleveland Clinic, Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center, MetroHealth System and University Hospitals—coordinating a network of transdisciplinary effort that touches a myriad of diseases and cultural backgrounds.
They utilize an extraordinary consortium of medical school faculty across all Cleveland medical institutions to create integrated teams of experts to educate their trainees, link disciplines to discover the mysteries and treatment of serious diseases, and understand and eliminate health inequities in Cleveland and across the world. The School of Medicine ranks 20th in National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding and has over $300 million in sponsored research. The overall budget for the School of Medicine exceeds $500 million.
The Vice Dean and CFO reports directly to the Dean and Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs, Stan Gerson, MD, who has served over 31 years on the faculty of the School of Medicine and was appointed Dean in October 2021. He also serves as the Acting Director of the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center and the National Center for Regenerative Medicine, where he is the Asa and Patricia Shiverick–Jane Shiverick (Tripp) Professor of Hematological Oncology and CWRU Distinguished University Professor. The Vice Dean and CFO also has a dotted line reporting relationship to the Senior Vice President for Finance and CFO of CWRU, John Sideras.
The Vice Dean serves as an advisor to the Dean and the Dean's Leadership Team on all aspects of school strategy, direction, investment and risks. As the school's chief business officer, the Vice Dean is responsible for leading and managing the strategic financial and operational components of the school, and for representing the school to the financial and operational leadership of the University and partners within four health systems. Serving as partner and counselor, the Vice Dean plays a broad, multi-faceted role in ensuring the success of the school, the development and stewarding of its resources, and the maintenance of its position within and beyond CWRU.
The CFO will be a strategic thinker and leader in implementing plans to ensure financial soundness for the School of Medicine. They will guide and advise leaders in the execution of the School of Medicine's five-year strategic plan (2021 – 2026).
