FINANCIAL ANALYST
Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000 /year
This position has the option to work fully remote.
The Graduate Division is the central resource for all matters related to graduate education at UC San Diego. As a key leader in The Graduate Division Financial Support Unit (FSU), the Financial Analyst is responsible for central administration and oversight of graduate student financial support including: academic employment, tuition and fee remission, campus, UC systemwide, third party, and extramural fellowships and scholarships. Under direction of the Director of Graduate Student Financial Support, and in consultation with the FSU team members, the Analyst develops and manages reporting for leadership’s decision making and administration of central fellowship funds, Graduate Division managed endowment funds, and extramural match-funding commitments.
The Analyst independently performs complex calculations, financial analysis and forecasting to generate and monitor campus resource allocations of approximately $22M annually to academic divisions and departments. The Analyst develops and maintains the Graduate Division's $40M annual student financial support expenditure budget and provides expert recommendations regarding spending plans for graduate student support in both current year and multi-year contexts, manages chart of accounts, billing, and payment codes, and performs account reconciliation and fiscal close functions.
The Analyst performs fiscal and financial system audits and manages compliance functions for UC systemwide, campus and extramural graduate support funding.

This position is a contract position with an estimated duration of 2 years, with the possibility to extend to 3 years total.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience preparing complex budgets that include both short- and long-term multi-year projections. Thorough knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
- Working knowledge of educational policies, procedures, and processes in higher education settings, including teaching, research, and professional programs.
- Ability to independently gather required information to organize, and perform financial analysis assignments. Proven research, analytical and problem solving skills to collect and interpret data, and recommend new approaches or innovative solutions to complex problems.
- Familiarity with accounting concepts, principles and policies, including chart of accounts and financial statements. Ability to analyze and summarize complex accounting data, perform complex reconciliations, prepare financial reports, and resolve complex accounting problems independently. Experience processing financial journals.
- Proficient ability using spreadsheet and database software for complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports. Experience analyzing and reporting on large data sets. Proficiency in business analytics and intelligence tools to define required data, selecting from available query options to run reports.
- Proven ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner. Ability to clearly and concisely articulate complex topics to diverse individuals and groups, actively listen, and exercise diplomacy and advocacy when required.
- Effective interpersonal skills with peers throughout the organization; strong service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. Ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high-volume environment.
- Strong understanding of the graduate financial support landscape, including effort/employment-based, merit/fellowship-based, and need-based support as well as tuition and fees.
- Proficiency in business productivity and collaboration software (i.e. spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, email, direct/group messaging, presentation, PDF, etc. in Microsoft Office or GSuite and Adobe). Strong web literacy skills (i.e. navigation, mechanics, search, credibility, security, and composition).
