Recreation Services at Iowa State University is currently seeking candidates for an Associate Director - Business Operations. This position will be hired as a Senior Manager Business Administration.

The Associate Director will also serve on the department senior leadership team and assist with the development and implementation of the department policies and strategic plan. They will directly develop, implement, and oversee strategic plans for Department budget and Proforma, Marketing and Promotion, Student Development, and Membership Services.

The Associate Director will serve as Business Unit Manager for the Recreation Services Auxiliary Enterprise System with over $10 million in annual revenue. This person will:

-Plan and direct central administrative functions and daily operations in the Department of Recreation Services encompassing accounting and budgeting.

-Develop and implement departmental budgetary/financial policies and procedures.

-Develop and maintain system of internal controls to ensure fiscal integrity by complying with institutional requirements.

-Ensure proper application of university and Board of Regents rules and regulations as they are related to the financial affairs of the Department of Recreation Services.

-Review and approve department expenditures using various university payment methods.

-Develop and maintain all departmental financial reports for the Director of Recreation Service, Student Health & Wellness Fiscal Officer, Associate Vice President for Student Health & Wellness, Sr Vice President for Student Affairs, Assistant Vice President for Finance, Office of the President, Board of Regents, and State of Iowa.

-Respond to university administration, inter-institutional, and Board of Regents surveys, reports, and statistical analysis requests.

-Coordinate and review monthly reports for business operations.

-Allocate student fees and fees for service income and expenses to operating accounts based on revenue and expense allocation models.

-Maintain Recreation Services budget Proforma.

Marketing & Promotions

-Provide leadership and direction in all guest/information services, marketing/promotions, website development, memberships, sponsorships, fundraising and technology management for Recreation Services.

-Additionally, train and supervise (directly and indirectly) full time and part time staff and provide recommendations for enhancements relative to marketing and promotion.

Student Development

-Provide leadership and direction of all aspects relating to Recreation Services student development, including centralized on-boarding tasks, new student employee orientation, and programs related to personal and professional development for students.

-Ensure direct connection to the ISU Student Affairs Career Ready framework, utilizing the eight career readiness competencies.

-Additionally, train and supervise (directly and indirectly) full time and part time staff, and provide recommendations for enhancements relative to the student development.

Membership Services

-Responsible for development and oversight of all aspects relating to Recreation Services membership services, including revenue generation and member recruitment and retention.

-Additionally, train and supervise (directly and indirectly) full time and part time staff and provide recommendations for enhancements relative to the member experience.

This individual will also be responsible for infusing earning outcomes into all program and service planning. They will use various assessment types and tools to measure learning outcomes, program objectives and to determine program and service changes.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

MBA or related degree 
Related work experience in higher education/public finance
Leadership experience in business operations including: supervision, strategic planning, budgeting and financial accountability
Experience overseeing large, complex budgets
Experience identifying and initiating new business and/or revenue-generating opportunities.
Experience with student development
