Ohio University's Senior Planner is responsible for supporting campus planning functions for the University. Position will engage in a variety of projects related to higher education campus planning, programming, site studies, feasibility studies and urban design. The senior planner will work in a team-based environment with co-workers, clients, and user groups.
Planning- Performs advanced professional work related to variety of planning assignments, including space and site planning, programming, feasibility analysis, development of alternatives, and analytics on the Main Campus and other University properties, as required. Makes recommendations to integrate into master plan, strategic plan and facilities planning issues. (Daily)
Planning- Provides project management oversight for studies in accordance with University processes and strategic plan while mindful of State processes and guidelines and the design and construction process. Develops and leads complex planning studies and programming for short, mid, and long-term planning for space, site, facilities, transportation, capital projects, landscape, and infrastructure projects. Plans and develops short- and long-range programs and engages with leaders to promote and foster program success. Collects and applies data for planning related to long-term campus changes. Acts as the liaison between the customer, project and campus stakeholders, external constituents and leadership. (Weekly)
Capital and Project Funding Strategies- Lead the development of budget, schedule, and interrelated project planning for assigned projects while mindful of the University’s capital investment priorities. This work involves developing long-term financial planning reports, project budget forecasts, and monitoring performance against budget for projects building an understanding of changes from planning to the implemented project.
Planning Research- Conducts comprehensive research on project needs and industry trends and prepares reports on physical land use, facilities and space use, transportation plans, studies and analyses. Responds to various requests for reports and documentation concerning the functional use of facilities and space to assist University in short and long range planning. Collects and applies data for planning related to long-term campus changes. (Weekly)
Planning- Prepares proposals for and works with outside planning firms for projects as necessary. (As needed)
Planning- Reviews and processes complex comprehensive plan amendments, zonings, annexations, site plans, plats, etc. Verifies that proposed projects are in compliance with the University’s design standards and Campus Master Plan and/or the University’s Landscape Master Plan.
People – Acts as a mentor to junior planners to provide guidance and share expertise. Works with senior leaders, University departments and personnel, and external constituencies to strategize, plan, and implement major facilities-related programs and projects. Reviews and directs the work of team members, including Planner position as well as a staff of student interns who assist with space planning, updates to space and building information and drawings; collaborates with staff from other Units including Architecture Design & Construction as well as Facilities.
Successful candidate must have expert knowledge and expertise in concepts and practices of Urban Planning, Space Management, architecture, construction and/or facilities management. Candidate must also be able to travel to multiple work sites and meetings on and off the Athens campus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Design, Engineering, Urban Planning, or related field
- Minimum of 6 years of related experience
- Minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience
