Job Description

OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Assistant Provost for Finance and Administration plays a primary role in the development and oversight of the Academic Affairs budget and administrative affairs; assists in policy development and implementation; and in a comprehensive fashion, supports the work of the Provost/SVPAA by expediting and optimizing operations through appropriate channels. The academic budget is among the largest in the University.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Directs the development, collects data, monitors, oversees the allocation and maintains control of Academic Affairs budget.

• Gathers and analyzes information, undertakes studies and prepares reports, including statistical and or analytical reports as assigned; responds to information requests on behalf of the Provost/SVPAA; prepares financial models especially for individual academic programs.

• Coordinates the implementation of new or revised financial policies.

• Establishes and maintains strong collaborative working relationships with executive and administrative offices of the University, deans, department chairpersons, faculty members, staff, students, government and private agencies and/or the public to ensure that established goals are met and to resolve problems.

• Plans, implements, and controls general and special projects assigned by the Provost/SVPAA ensuring timely completion.

• Develops and implements measures to ensure that the directives of the Provost/SVPAA are properly carried out.

• Tracks and monitors the status of ongoing Academic Affairs projects and activities, such as special resources allocation, facilities projects and construction activities, implementation of academic and educational technologies, working collaboratively with others in the Division and across the University.

• Performs special studies or evaluative assessments on topics relevant to the effectiveness and efficiency of academic administration of the institution and makes recommendations regarding appropriate action.

• Conducts evaluation, consolidates data and prepares reports containing findings and recommendations for review, information and assistance to the Provost/SVPAA.

• Serves on or chairs relevant committees, ad hoc committees and task forces, as assigned.

• Assists in planning and implementation of evaluations and improvements, including administrative organization, work systems and work flow processes, and monitoring procedures (e.g., space management, start up funding).

• Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

• Master’s degree from accredited college or university in business, finance, accounting, or related field such as project management or the social sciences.

• Minimum of five years of professional experience, preferably in higher education.

• Strong knowledge of and experience in budgetary management and procedures and modeling.

• Outstanding communication skills.

• Demonstrated ability to provide effective organizational and operational support to an active and multifaceted organizational unit.

• Project management skills, and proficiency in relevant software applications.

• Ability to create, lead and facilitate cross-functional and cross-unit teams.

PREFERRED:

• CPA.

• Experience using various financial systems such as Workday and PeopleSoft.

• Experience managing complex projects that involve multiple functional units.
