The Johns Hopkins University Tax Office reports through the Controller to the university's senior leadership. The Tax Office is responsible for all the institution's domestic and international tax matters and is an integral member of this high-performing, client-focused team.
The Tax Office is looking for a motivated individual to fill the role of the International Tax Analyst. This individual will report to the Assistant Director for International Tax and support the global business activities of the university and its operating entities by providing the Tax Office with timely, thoughtful and detailed analysis of the university's international operations.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
The International Tax Analyst brings knowledge of financial and accounting principles and some familiarity with international tax rules and regulations; familiarity with international tax rules and regulations related to tax-exempt organizations is a plus. The Analyst brings an ability to gather, document and analyze qualitative and quantitative data from various sources that support the monitoring of the university's international presence.
The Analyst demonstrates excellent research skills, a willingness to learn, comfort with financial systems and data, interest in data mining and analytics and high levels of competency with written and oral communication. This individual is detail-oriented and has excellent organization skills.
The essential duties for the International Tax Analyst include, but are not limited to:
Gather and analyze qualitative and quantitative information from JHU's systems to monitor university operations in various jurisdictions
Coordinate with departments receiving international payments to file for exemption or reduced tax rates under double tax avoidance treaties
Track and review requests for international independent contractor determinations
Support the Assistant Director for International Tax in ensuring timely and accurate completion of international tax filings (e.g. corporate taxes, payroll taxes and VAT/GST) for the university and its international operating entities
Collaborate with international experts serving in other university departments (e.g Human Resources and Office of General Counsel) to provide international compliance support to university divisions
Monitor international tax developments for changes in the local and/or multilateral tax landscape that have the potential to impact the university's operations, compliance requirements, or both
Conduct research on local tax laws and regulations related to corporate taxes, payroll taxes and VAT/GST
Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director for International Tax

Strong research skills, ability to analyze and interpret complex regulatory language in a broad range of foreign jurisdictions and apply rules to university facts and circumstances.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field. Graduate education in Accounting, Business, Finance, Tax, or related field preferred
Two years of related experience. If Bachelor's degree is in unrelated field, three years of progressively responsible experience is required
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula
Familiarity with JHU is a plus
Licensure, Certification, Registration:
CPA a plus
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
