The Director of Student Accounts manages and oversees the operations of student account billing and collection and cash reconciliation, as well as supports the general accounting operations of the College. Providing direct supervision to the College's Business Office staff, this position is responsible for the overall direction, supervision and performance evaluation of this team and is responsible for carrying out such supervision in accordance with standards set by the College and applicable State laws.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Manage Business Office staff and operations with focus on both state and audit compliance, internal control process and customer service.
Supervise and train staff; conduct performance appraisals; reward and discipline staff; resolve employee complaints; plan, assign and direct work processes.
Maintain appropriate tuition, fee and billing term data tables within the College financial data repository.
Generate student account charges and oversee receipt and reconciliation of all cash received from student payments and payment plans, as well as from all other revenue generating sources.
Process all student refunds.
Initiate and monitor all student account collection efforts, to include issuing dunning letters, overseeing relationship with external collection agency and overseeing college utilization of the MA intercept program.
Manage the student course cancellation process.
Oversee the annual 1098T issuance.
Assist the Comptroller with the wiring of funds.
Provide necessary supporting documentation and reconciliation to external audit team.
Prepare various state reporting, to include annual Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) financial reporting and PCI compliance reporting.
Assist in projecting tuition and fee revenue for both monthly reporting and for the annual operating budget.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
Three years of related work experience, to include cash management.
Technical knowledge and experience in General Ledger accounting, maintenance and account reconciliation, and automated banking.
Knowledge of federal and state financial regulation.
Experience supervising a professional accounting/finance/customer service team.
Ability to plan and organize in a deadline driven environment.
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with staff at all levels.
Ability to safe-guard sensitive, confidential subject matter.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex subject matter.
Proficiency in MS Office programs, such as Word and Excel.
Experience in importing/exporting data to/from Excel, and manipulating data.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Higher Education accounting experience.
Familiarity with Massachusetts general finance law.
