What We’re Looking For Baylor University’s Controller’s Office is looking for a Senior Accountant, Accounting Operations. This position reports to the Assistant Controller and will support the compliance, accounting, and audit work of the team. The successful candidate will demonstrate the following:

A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance and five years of relevant work experience is required. A Master’s degree and six years of relevant experience is preferred. A CPA or someone who is currently sitting for their CPA certification is strongly preferred.
Review (for accuracy and errors), monitor and provide oversight of transactions and/or approve, and process journal entries initiated by other departments. Interface successfully with departments to advise and guide in resolving accounting and financial questions or problems.
Calculate, record, and analyze distributions. Process accounting interfaces from external systems. Coordinate and resolve budget issues. Review and approve journal entries prepared by other accounting staff.
Review contracts to ensure appropriate accounting, prepare financial analyses and reconciliations and coordinate entries for University operating activities.
Review/reconcile assigned accounts, student financial aid awards and sponsored grants for proper accounting. Assist in monitoring of grants accounting/reporting set-up. Verify sponsored grant and student financial aid financial reporting, F&A rates, revenue sharing distributions, deadlines and compliance with reporting requirements.
Analyze, prepare and record routine and non-routine daily, month-end and year-end journal entries ensuring timely and accurate reporting of assigned accounts and operating activities.
Analyze and reconcile accounts exercising judgment and coordinating corrections. Research discrepancies and review transactions for timeliness, accuracy and conformance with GAAP and established procedures. Forecast revenues/expenditures.
Coordinate and assist with annual external audit and periodic internal or agency audits. Prepare work papers and reports supporting account balances and activities.
Maintain updated knowledge of GAAP, University policies, procedures, financial requirements, and Office of Management & Budget (OMB) Uniform Guidance and federal and state grants and contracts accounting, compliance, reporting principles and requirements.
Assist with the development of materials and delivery of training to campus end users. Provide accounting assistance and system guidance to end users as needed.
Attend meetings, seminars, staff developments and training sessions. Serve on University committees, assist with special projects of the Controller's Office, and perform other duties as assigned.
Direct assignments to student workers as appropriate. Review and oversee student work and provide training to students to perform assigned duties.
