The Director of Financial Reporting will serve in the Controller's Office, a division of Finance and Administration. This position will provide technical direction in the preparation of financial reports and maintain the integrity of general ledger data to enable informed decision making by management and University stakeholders. This position must collaborate and partner with campus academic and administrative staff to continually improve accounting processes and reporting. This position acts independently to resolve any operational or management issues in the Financial Reporting Department. Issues and priorities are not well-defined requiring extensive interpretation of available facts and to arrive at the appropriate decisions. Work is primarily self-initiated and reviewed in terms of meeting goals and objectives. This position requires the ability to make sound decisions and recommendations quickly in a very complex environment.
This position will be responsible for the application of GAAP and GASB standards to accurately plan and prepare the financial statements for the University and its three foundations. This position will also be responsible for preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. This position acts as the liaison between external auditors and the University.
Provides leadership to the financial reporting department. Responsible for facilitating staff development to enable growth of staff competencies and address competency deficiencies through coaching and mentoring. Manages departmental resources to effectively respond to operational requirements and University needs. Reviews the work product of staff and provides feedback as needed. Promotes collaboration within and outside of the financial reporting unit to continually improve accounting processes and reporting.
Maintain the integrity of financial reporting data. This position oversees the maintenance of the University's chart of accounts, including modifications for FOAPAL (fund, organization, account, program, activity and location) fields. Analyzes financial systems and provides recommendations for innovative solutions. Documents business processes and accounting policies. Develops and monitors the University's system of internal control for operating effectiveness. Provides financial reports and information for internal management and departments. Management Preferences: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field and experience in progressive financial reporting responsibility.
