The Director of Divisional Business Operations position has direct influence on the mission for Iowa State University’s Division of Operations and Finance as well as the institution. The Division employs more than 1200 staff and students with operating and capital expenditures of $300 million. All institutional expenditures, revenues and transfers are transacted through the Division with institutional revenues and expenditures totaling $1.5 billion.
The Division currently consists of 8 units: Facilities Planning & Management; Environmental Health & Safety; Central Finance & Treasurer’s Office; Institutional Finance Strategy; Finance Service Delivery; Payroll, Tax & Benefits; Public Safety & Risk Management; Specialty Business Services & Cultural Arts.
The Director works with unit fiscal managers to lead, oversee and advise on divisional financial, budgetary, auxiliary services, communications, training, engagement, and resource planning, ensuring appropriate and consistent interpretation of and compliance with university regulations, policies and procedures.
The Director is a senior partner on the institutional budget management team, which is responsible for institutional financial strategic planning.
Tracks trends and develops long range divisional plans, including the establishment and implementation of goals and objectives to achieve the plans
Develops and implements strategic and creative solutions to achieve divisional and university priorities
Manages consistent communication across all divisional businesses and analyzes and outlines training expectations that maximize individual and organization goals across the division
Overseas budgetary plans and recommendations to obtain the needed resources to achieve the division’s mission and ensures that budgetary controls exist to monitor, verify, and reconcile financial activities
Conducts high level comparative analyses and research, interprets that information, and provides recommendations to senior management
Leads and manages projects
Provides guidance on diversity and inclusion strategies

Required Minimum Quals:
Bachelor's degree and 8 years of related experience; OR a Master's degree and 6 years of related experience; OR a Ph.D. or other professional degree and 3 years of related experience.
Related work experience in higher education
Leadership experience in business operations including: strategic planning, budgeting and financial accountability
Experience identifying and initiating new business and/or revenue generating opportunities
