The Business Model Analyst will provide cost analyses of new academic programs, business partnerships and ventures, as well as explore various business models and pricing options for new academic products. This position will help determine return on investment for new opportunities and be responsible for refining and applying the College’s cost allocation methodology. The Analyst will report to the Director of Research and Evaluation in Analytics and Decision Support and works closely with the Chief Financial Officer and other College leadership in developing, maintaining, and continuously advancing financial concepts for modeling strategic initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: •Apply demonstrated knowledge of business modeling to develop and maintain substantial expertise in Excelsior’s pricing, including return on investment (ROI) and cost allocation practices and methodologies, that assist decision making across the college. •Coordinate work on revenue and cost data to ensure proper use of resources. •Financially explore and evaluate academic programs, business opportunities, and pricing options for new academic products; design models for analyzing alternatives; assist formulating conclusions and shaping decision making based on analysis. •Work closely with the Fiscal and Business Intelligence staff, Data Scientists, and Senior Research Analysts to ensure that applications and reports meet business user needs. •Lead the acquisition and/or development of business modeling, ROI, and cost allocation tools and techniques. •Prepare written and oral reports summarizing findings in a manner that can be easily understood by the College community. •Use visual data tools to present data clearly to nontechnical audiences. Prepare and present data to various audiences using tables, charts, narrative reports and dashboards that support operational and strategic decision making. •Develop and maintain a broad and deep knowledge of business processes and data sources of the College’s academic, operational, and administrative activities. •Meet with department leaders and staff to determine costs (fixed, variable, direct, and indirect) and allocation criteria and methods. •Extract data from college data systems to use in business modeling, ROI, and cost allocation analyses; reconcile costing information to financial systems and records; document assumptions, methods and results in various forms supporting the analyses completed. •Promote data stewardship and data quality. •Other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications: •A bachelor’s degree is required, master’s degree preferred, from an accredited institution in business analytics, statistics, finance, accounting, or related empirical research field. •Demonstrated knowledge and application of cost analysis related to business modeling, including ROI and direct and overhead cost allocation activities. •Demonstrated ability to cogently summarize project findings and their implications, both orally and in written reports.
Requirements: •Five or more years of relevant experience. •Analytical mindset and comfort with explaining quantitative analysis. •Strong attention to detail, thoroughness, and follow through. •Skill and experience with data analysis and large data sets. •Strong interpersonal and communication skills to convey project goals, requirements, and results effectively and positively. •Comfortable working with college leadership on a frequent basis. •Ability to design, analyze and model business opportunities and processes. •Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. •Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks. •Higher education experience highly preferred.
