The University of Rhode Island is seeking an innovative, dynamic Controller well-versed in the needs of public higher education to help implement the streamlined, efficient financial systems and processes required by a 21st century institution of higher education.
The University of Rhode Island, located in the beautiful seaside region of Rhode Island known as South County, has achieved dramatic growth at a time when the number of high school graduates in the Northeast has been declining steadily. Enrollment increased by 15% in the ten years between 2009 to 2018, while student quality in terms of the test scores and GPA of entering students simultaneously improved. The University, a doctoral institution, is classified as “High research activity” in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, and research grants received grew from $82.6 million in 2009 to $91.0 million in 2018. More than $900 million has been invested in new construction and renovation of University facilities in the last 12 years. URI is a university on the move.
The University’s financial infrastructure needs to be modernized and streamlined to support and complement this growth. Reporting to the Vice President for Administration & Finance, the new Controller will be a leader in this transformative change, in addition to serving as the senior manager responsible for the oversight of accounting activities and financial services of the campus: the operations within the Controller’s Office include Accounting Operations (including accounts payable, travel, purchase card, accounts payable, and allied functions), Financial Reporting (including cash management and student accounts receivable), Payroll, Sponsored & Cost Accounting and Financial Systems.
If you are an innovator experienced in the financial management of a large institution, with customer service orientation, commitment to integrity, and sound judgment, this position deserves your serious consideration.
