The bursar oversees all aspects of student billing for undergraduate, graduate, and certification programs including all billing processes, collections, student refunds, financial assistance, financial counseling, and communications. This position works collaboratively with the offices of financial aid, registrar, residence life, controller’s office, and other campus departments on interrelated student policies and processes and student success and retention models. This position is also responsible for the data collection, reporting, and completion of the annual 1098-T, and other required federal reporting. This professional will coordinate third party agencies to arrange and oversee the health insurance, tuition refund insurance, and payment plans provided to the students.
Qualified applicants will possess a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or finance with a minimum of five years of experience in a student financial services billing office, preferably with both undergraduate and graduate billing operations. Strong technology skills and the ability to work closely with the IT staff to utilize database information effectively and efficiently are required. In addition, the ideal candidate will have a high level of proficiency using database systems and Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Success factors for this position include a highly self-motivated, organized, team coordinator who excels in setting and delivering the highest levels of customer service to a diverse population of students; a strong accounting background with demonstrated analytical, problem solving, and reporting skills; excellent communication, negotiation, and management skills; and the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects at the same time and meet deadlines, often working in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate has a welcoming persona with a positive, “can-do” attitude and a desire to immediately contribute in a positive way to the college’s student support services.
