Johnson C Smith University, a 150-year old historically black liberal arts college dedicated to diverse students located in Charlotte, NC, invites nominations and applications for an accomplished professional to serve as the Director of Financial Aid. The University is moving to a comprehensive approach of recruitment and retention of students. The successful individual will play a key role in this developing Enrollment Management Division focused on creating a student-centered culture.
The Director will work across the university to build a seamless and responsive environment of services for students while solidifying a strong system of direct financial aid services. He/She will manage all aspects of student aid and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. Maintaining full compliance with the A-133 Audit is critical for the university, and as important is maintaining the university’s excellent working relationship with the Department of Education. The Director will evaluate operations working toward continuous improvement of processes and will be a champion for staff development through professional training and workshops. It will be expected that the director will pursue and develop best practices in customer relations serving all stakeholders with emphasis on students, parents and adult students.

The successful candidate will hold a Master’s Degree and at least 8 - 10 years of progressively responsible financial aid experience of which at least 4 years have been in a management position. This position requires a financial aid professional who has demonstrated knowledge of federal and state programs in Higher Education along with other forms of aid including grants and scholarships. Proficiency in financial aid guidelines, strong audit experience and financial aid software experience, preferably PowerFAIDS, are required.
