Job Description: We are seeking a Director of Safety and Security who is committed to providing a safe environment for our campuses. The Director of Safety and Security is responsible for the formulation and administration of institutional policies relating to the safety and security of the college. The Director will provide leadership in promoting all aspects of security and occupational health and safety programs. The Director of Safety and Security is responsible for collecting data; planning, supervising, and training; and monitoring compliance with governmental and college safety standards.
This position reports to the Director of Facilities & Administrative Services. The work involves the direct supervision of campus security guards, and the buildings, grounds and property of Orange County Community College. This position is also responsible for maintaining order on the campus at all times. The incumbent will be required to be on call 24 hours per day 7 days per week in order to respond to emergencies.
The Safety & Security Director is responsible for developing a culture of preparedness within the College through prevention, response, and recovery. This position will also collaborate and coordinate with diverse internal and external stakeholders to develop effective emergency plans/procedures. This position serves as the front-line representative of emergency management to the College community.
Requirements: Education Required: Bachelor's Degree with one year of required experience OR Associate Degree with three years of required experience; OR five years equivalent experience.
Experience Required: Supervisory experience in a Safety & Security environment. Must have in-depth and current knowledge of law enforcement operations, investigative procedures, and security laws and regulations. Requires excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills to effectively deal with difficult and complex problems. Ability to manage a department, including supervising and scheduling employees, managing budgets, and addressing performance issues.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:
Community college or higher education experience.
Ability to anticipate, identify, and resolve problems; exercise sound judgement; evaluate emergency situations and adopt effective courses of action; to analyze and communicate emergency response advice to campus; To establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to plan, coordinate and promote various programs; to develop practical plans and exercises, to test and evaluate response and recovery.
Ability to gain trust of colleagues, show respect for others, value diversity, equity, inclusion, demonstrate integrity.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
Familiarity with CLERY Act and Title IX requirements. Experience with CLERY Act coordination and annual Security Report.
Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and building and fire codes
Must be able to travel between the college's two campuses and other sites.
