The Assistant Controller is responsible for supporting the Assistant VP for Finance and Administration/Controller in maintaining timely and accurate accounting records and financial reporting for the College in accordance with GAAP and practices for higher education. This position will be a hands-on leader responsible for developing and performing the operational accounting activities of the college. The Assistant Controller is an integral member of the Office of Business Affairs and will have supervisory responsibility over staff and functions.
KEY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Expert-level knowledge of accounting, accounts payable, cash and budget management and forecasting.
Requires a deep understanding of financial systems and their relationship to financial reporting and other core financial processes and the integration of other custom applications (Great Plains Dynamics, Cognos, and Management Reporter).
Dynamic leadership, communication (written and Oral), and interpersonal skills; excels at collaborating, consensus building, and customer service; demonstrated ability to deal with conflict and complex situations.
Ability to supervise, train and mentor staff in their work, establishing clear priorities and measurable goals.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field.
Five to seven years’ experience directly related to job description.
Three to five years’ experience in staff supervision and management.
Background and credit report required.
Active CPA license.
MBA and/or additional certification.
Strong technical knowledge of not-for-profit accounting, GAAP and FASB preferably in higher education environment.
Proficient with financial systems and integration management. Great Plains Dynamics, IBM Cognos, and Management Reporter experience preferred.
