Reporting to the Vice President for Administration and Finance, the Director of Budget, Planning and Analysis leads the development, implementation, monitoring, interpretation and analysis of Union College’s Annual and Operating Budgets, Long Range Planning, Capital Planning, Salary Forecasting, and Benefit Rate Models.
Responsibilities: Develop, maintain, and update strategic and long range financial models, operating plans, salary and staffing models, and benefit rates. Monitor and report spending against budget, prepare comprehensive financial narrative, supporting schedules, variance analysis, trend analysis, amortization schedules, funding models and ongoing analysis. Oversee forecasting of results and development of management reports. Incorporate analysis and interpretation of financial data for the purpose of determining past financial performance and/or to project future financial performance, advise and make recommendations to the Vice President for Administration and Finance and Union senior administration on financial and strategic matters, develop complex financial analysis, ad hoc reporting, and streamline operating processes.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance (MBA and/or CPA highly desirable), seven to ten years relevant and progressive financial and managerial experience (experience in higher education strongly preferred) with at least five years’ experience managing operating budgets, and excellent documentation skills required. Candidates must also have experience with long range planning, capital planning, annual and operating budgets, extensive Excel skills including financial modeling, pivot tables, and data warehouse system interfaces, demonstrated experience with developing and preparing presentations, proven ability to provide leadership, an ability to communicate effectively with multiple constituencies, manage multiple, diverse tasks, utilize critical thinking and to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. The selected candidate must have a demonstrable decisive and consultative leadership style, possess a proven track record for fostering open communications and building positive relationships with all constituents, be a collegial team player who operates with transparency and fosters trust and transparency, be a thoughtful professional with proven ability to share new ways of thinking, a willingness to listen actively and learn from others, and the ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and the public.
