The Cal Poly Pomona Foundation, Inc. (“Foundation”), an auxiliary organization, seeks an innovative and experienced individual to serve as its next Executive Director (“ED”). The ED serves as the chief executive officer for the Foundation, and is responsible for all business development, operations, and financial activities that support California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (“Cal Poly Pomona”), a distinguished public university dedicated to an applied, hands-on approach to higher education. Reporting directly to the University Vice President for Administration, Finance & Strategic Development & Chief Financial Officer, with a dotted line report to the University President, the ED will oversee an operating budget totaling approximately $67 million, 250 staff, and approximately 874 part-time faculty and staff, and works in partnership with the university to align Foundation priorities with Cal Poly Pomona’s mission and strategic goals.
Cal Poly Pomona is one of two polytechnic universities in the 23-campus California State University System, and one of only seven polytechnic institutions nationally. With a diversity of degree programs in the arts, humanities, sciences, engineering, and professional disciplines, the university is well known for its learn-by-doing philosophy. Cal Poly Pomona is nestled in the beautiful San Gabriel Valley less than 30 miles east of Los Angeles at the intersection of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, the largest four counties in the State. The ED will be a proven, effective leader with demonstrated capacity to provide efficient, entrepreneurial and innovative auxiliary services to the university community. The ED will identify opportunities for cost savings through shared service models and streamlining operations; lead staff in the development and implementation of short- and long-range plans; partner with campus executives to advance real estate development and public-private partnerships; promote the programs and services of the Foundation to the university and community partners; and support a staff culture that prides itself on quality service and continuous improvement.
The new ED will be a hands-on leader with strong business acumen and effective partnering skills coupled with excellent interpersonal, communication, and financial leadership skills. The ED will have a keen understanding of the trends and issues facing institutions of higher education and affiliated auxiliary organizations. The ED must be resourceful, organized, and results-oriented. The successful candidate will respect the university’s collaborative culture and be a confident, humble leader able to influence and motivate others in a fast-paced environment.
