Conduct and control the requisition, purchasing and receiving of merchandise for resale. Locate sources and suppliers to establish optimal costs, availability, delivery and services. Confer with Sales representatives, wholesalers and publishers to negotiate prices, discounts and display advertising. Travel to various stores to purchase food for resale. Monitor and ensure product rotation.
Develop system for timely book orders and course pack submissions from faculty.
Coordinate Book Voucher program with Student Financial Services to permit students to purchase books before the semester using anticipated loan funds.
Authorize and manage the return of textbooks to vendors.
Conduct a book buy back at the end of each semester.
Plan effective merchandise display techniques and layouts; select, order and install new equipment as necessary. Set selling prices of merchandise for retail. Determine timing of price reductions and selling price of marked down merchandise.
Develop content on e-commerce website and market to alumni. Develop advertising strategies within budget.
Recruit, hire,train and supervise student workers. Ensure all cafe' employees complete annual food-handling certification.
Determine a quality product mix that includes healthy and desired options for cafe'. Develop weekly menu specials.
Work in Cafe' in the absence of other staff and assist during lunch hour to facilitate quicker service times. Prepare food using grill or other means.
Monitor $200,000 annual revenue budget including sales goals, trends and volume. Create monthly sales reports. Analyze and adjust operations accordingly. Establish, maintain and monitor accurate perpetual and periodic inventory systems and records.
Ensure that school policies and procedures are followed.
Additional duties may be assigned to meet organizational needs.
A minimum of 2-3 years of bookstore retail, customer service, and college textbook ordering experience.
Experience with cash handling.
Physical requirements include frequent lifting up to 50 pounds.
Demonstrated proficiency in purchasing and inventory procedures and controls.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products; specifically Excel and Word.
Positive attitude and desire to work and interact with students.
Highly responsible and self-motivated.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Familiarity with principles of budgeting, cost margins, determining optimum product mix and merchandising.
Additional Salary Information: 50,000 annually, plus full benefits and healthy time-off.
