Reporting to the Vice President for Financial Affairs, the Director of Student Financial Planning is responsible for the administration of federal, state, and institutional financial assistance programs ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations as well as University policies. Accountable for daily operations, the Director will lead and mentor a staff of 7 full-time employees focusing on training and professional development in order to maintain an office of highly-skilled individuals. The importance of outstanding customer service to the University and the students this office serves is paramount. The ability to organize, prioritize, and schedule office operations is essential for the successful candidate. The Director is expected to exhibit a team-oriented approach as the individual assists in supporting the University’s enrollment goals and budget projections while being cognitive of the desired discount rate and net tuition revenue goals. The Director is responsible for reporting to senior management on awarding progress and fund monitoring during the peak periods. Ability to work beyond a typical work day and weekends when necessary will be required.
A bachelor’s degree is required (advanced degree strongly preferred) with a minimum of 10 years of responsible leadership and experience in financial aid at Associate Director level or higher. Strong technology background and experience with relational database systems is essential. Experience with Ellucian’s Colleague system is preferred. Superior verbal, written, and presentation skills are required as well as strong analytical skills with understanding of complex financial analysis as it relates to financial aid awarding strategies. Competency in monitoring and reporting of awarding process is required in order to communicate succinctly with senior administration. Understanding of NCAA Division I policies is highly desired in the successful candidate. The Director must be an energetic, hands-on leader and project manager possessing an unwavering commitment to superior customer service while understanding the importance of financial aid in recruitment and retention.
