Thomas College invites applications for the position of Controller. Reporting to the Sr. Vice President for Financial Affairs, the Controller provides leadership and management oversight for the daily operations of accounting, payroll, accounts payable and oversees all financial reporting functions at the College. Responsibilities include assisting the CFO with long-range financial planning, budgeting functions, banking activities and relationships, cash management, institutional fiscal policies, financial contracts, insurance, contracted services, and risk management. In addition the Controller coordinates all external and internal audit activities and works closely with all departments of the College on procedure and policy decisions related to financial activities. The Controller also manages accounting software and implements regulatory compliance.

A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a business-related field, and at least six years of progressively responsible experience, preferably in higher education, exposure to auditing procedures, and at least three years of supervisory experience are required. A CPA or Master’s Degree in Business or a related field is desired. The College is seeking an individual with demonstrated leadership, management, organizational, analytical, and communication skills. The successful candidate must have comprehensive knowledge of current accounting standards (GAAP and FASB) and other laws relating to non-profit and employment accounting. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in non-profit accounting, gift accounting, grant accounting, and have proficiency in use of integrated financial systems, preferably with Blackbaud’s Financial Edge NXT. There may be opportunities for growth within the College for the ideal candidate.
