The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking applications for a Business Officer for the College of Business. This is a full-time, permanent staff position.
Purpose of the Position: The Director of Finance and Personnel provides leadership for all business, financial, and personnel activities of the Belk College of Business. The Director of Finance and Personnel has overall accountability for planning and directing the strategic and long-range financial goals of the College. As a direct report of the Dean, this position develops key processes in the College and is responsible for the reporting of all financial information to both internal and external stakeholders. The Director of Finance and Personnel is the College's primary liaison with Academic Affairs, Business Affairs, Human Resources, Advancement, Internal Audit, and Research & Economic Development. The position serves as an expert resource on College and University financial policies, and provides consultation for College personnel issues. The Director of Finance and Personnel leads dean's office initiatives to improve management procedures, policies, and financial planning. The Director of Finance and Personnel supervises four staff positions of the Finance/Personnel Team, as well as provides leadership and support for three Department Coordinator staff positions. Planning, directing and coordinating all transactions for the Finance/Personnel team and Department Coordinators is an essential part of this position.
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or related business area and three years of administration management or business management experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Essential Job Duties: Responsibilities include information and data analysis; reporting; problem solving and decision making; facilitation and management of financial resources that may be state appropriated, discretionary, receipt generated, and/or from contracts and grants. This position performs a range of financial and business-related duties associated with specialized areas such as accounting, budgeting, auditing, compliance, and human resources. Functions assigned to the Director role include financial management, personnel administration/management, salary and special pay administration, purchasing, inventory control, facilities coordination/planning, and closely related work. The position may directly perform or have oversight of accounts reconciliation, maintenance, analysis and reporting of financial or associated data, financial projections and trends, cash/receipts management, personnel planning, recruitment and hiring, and performance management.
Preferred Qualifications: Graduate degree in business administration, accountancy, or related discipline. Supervisory experience. Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of the principles of management and budgeting as applied within an organization of higher education. Comprehensive experience as a trusted advisor and consultant to senior leaders and supervisors on all areas of personnel, strategy, and organizational transformation. Demonstrated ability to analyze and report complex financial data using a variety of formats suitable to diverse audiences. Microsoft Excel proficiency at the intermediate level required, with advanced preferred. Strong leadership skills, process improvement skills, and demonstrated ability to understand and navigate through complex matters. Ability to successfully manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Solid and proven experience in project management. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and verbally; able to present, persuade, and influence across various audiences. Excellent organizational skills, tact, and judgement in dealing with confidential information. Five years of administration management or business management experience, preferably in an academic setting.
