Tulane University, founded in 1834, is one of the most highly regarded and selective independent research universities in the United States. A member of the prestigious Association of American Universities, it takes pride in being a part of this select group of universities with “preeminent programs of graduate and professional education and scholarly research.” The schools and colleges offer undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees in liberal arts, science and engineering, architecture, business, law, social work, medicine, and public health and tropical medicine. Tulane’s uptown campus includes 110 acres and 89 buildings, housing the majority of its schools and colleges. The downtown campus has several divisions: School of Medicine, School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, School of Social Work, and Tulane Medical Center. The downtown campus also houses many of Tulane’s non-academic offices such as Advancement, Government Relations, Human Resources, Internal Audit and Information Technology. The North Shore campus is home to the Tulane National Primate Research Center in Covington, La.
Vice President for Finance
The Vice President for Finance is responsible for providing creative vision, leadership, and management of the financial functions in support of the University's academic mission; maintaining open lines of communication and seeking to thoroughly understand diverse points of view; providing appropriate opportunity for input; and making decisions that align the goals of the University.
Promoting the financial well-being of the University by providing budget management, exercising executive control over University budgets, and safeguarding all financial assets of the University.
Overseeing Financial Services, University Budget, Procurement, Treasury, Cash Management, and Business Operations.
Minimizing liability to the University by ensuring compliance of governing regulations and addressing risk management issues.
Marshalling necessary financial resources to implement mission and vision, utilizing data to assess progress and determine direction.
Supporting the leadership team by hiring individuals who align with the University mission, providing timely and direct feedback, creating opportunity for personal and professional development, providing incentives for high performance, and ensuring success.
Articulating, regularly updating, and implementing a strategic plan for the Office of the VP for Finance which aligns with the University's strategic directions.
Participating in shared governance across the University including students, staff, and faculty, and applying University policies and procedures.
Ensuring the University's commitment to its values and mission, including diversity and inclusion and sustainability, as evidenced by creative and effective initiatives.
Programming that models inclusiveness and community involvement both within and outside of the University.
Fostering an environment of collegiality, support, and mutual trust.
10 years progressive responsibility in a senior administrative role(s) in finance within higher education, or the private sector.
Ability to communicate a vision for the big picture and relate business affairs strategies and resources to the university's mission and strategic directions.
Strong financial skills, with proven ability to plan and manage both operating and capital budgets, and support a data-driven decision model.
Direct experience with multi-year modeling and analysis, and integrating plans that have competing priorities and multiple inter dependencies.
Strong financial/business analytical ability and project planning strengths.
Current on the latest developments in the industry that can be applied to improve the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the Office of the VP for Finance and related departments.
A creative problem-solver with the ability to think strategically and develop a vision for long-range planning.
A proven leader and manager, who knows how to effectively motivate a team, including technical experts, support their professional development and create a productive work environment.
