East Stroudsburg University currently seeks an Assistant Controller for the Business Office. The Assistant Controller will be responsible for providing leadership to accounting staff giving direction and guidance to direct reports, delegating assignments, reviewing staff productivity, and mentoring staff to ensure high quality accounting and financial reporting. He/she will act as a liaison with external independent auditors on the annual financial report. He/she will maintain a thorough working knowledge of the institution's financial management ERP system and will be responsible for accurate and timely posting of transactions to the general ledger while ensuring fiscal integrity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and University policies and procedures. He/she will be responsible for coordinating institutional banking and investment activities with the PA State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) treasury function which include both operating and restricted funds, as well as other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:oo a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Typically, 37.5 hours a week.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or other business-related discipline
Licensure as Certified Public Accountant in good standing (active or inactive but can bring license current within one year of hire) or hold the minimum qualifications to sit for the CPA exam (US Citizen, Valid Social Security Number, At Least 18-years-old, 120 College Credit Hours or Bachelor’s Degree) and secure a license within one year of hire.
Seven or more years of experience, with three or more years of full charge supervisory experience, preferably in a higher education union environment
Knowledge of GASB/FASB financial reporting requirements
Working knowledge of operational and financial reporting issues
Self-motivated and highly detail oriented problem solver with strong analytical skills
Open and collaborative leadership style that encourages teamwork and cooperation; strong role model, manager, and coach
Experience using a large ERP system such as SAP
Strong PC and business software skills
Excellent oral and written skills and excellent use of grammar and composition; the ability to communicate comfortably with staff, students, colleagues, and external constituents.
Master’s degree in accounting, finance or business related field.
Knowledge of governmental/fund accounting
Prior experience in higher education
Experience with Grants Management
Experience using SAP information system
Preferred qualifications may be used to further reduce the pool of applicants to those who are most highly qualified.
