The Division of Student Affairs seeks an experienced and accomplished professional to lead the University of Florida's efforts in student engagement. The assistant vice president for student engagement will have responsibility for the J. Wayne Reitz Union (JWRU), Student Activities and Involvement, the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Affairs, the David and Wanda Brown Center for Community Engagement, Event Management, and the Office of Risk Management. This position is a key member of the Vice President for Student Affairs’ leadership team.
The JWRU building is a multi-purpose facility with over 600,000 gross square feet of public space, including ballrooms, an auditorium, meeting rooms, a food court, game room, offices, and a hotel with 36 guest rooms. The JWRU serves as the nexus for student engagement at UF. Highly qualified candidates will possess a depth and breadth of experience that encompasses facilities operations, budgeting and financial management, program development and implementation, advising and support of student organizations, diversity and inclusion, and risk management.
Major responsibility areas include:
Oversight, leadership and direction for the Department of Student Engagement, including facilitating development of a vision and mission for student engagement; ensuring alignment with division and UF values and objectives; program development, planning and service delivery; budget planning and oversight; formulating effective policies and procedures; establishing effective collaborations with division and campus colleagues; and ensuring effective assessment of programs and activities.
Oversight of student organization advising and support functions, student involvement, community engagement and leadership development initiatives, including developing a comprehensive strategy on co-curricular student involvement; developing a comprehensive training program for student leaders; providing oversight for registration of over 1000 student organizations; developing an adviser network with best practices and training; collaborating with organizations on multicultural initiatives; developing student leadership programs; and managing events.
Oversight of facility, administrative and business operations, including preparation and oversight of $11.7M budget; ensuring high standards for operation, maintenance and housekeeping of JWRU; managing construction and renovation projects; negotiating contracts; developing a vision for facility use; and engaging and collaborating with the JWRU Board of Managers.
Oversight of Office of Risk Management and Education and Office of Sorority and Fraternity Affairs, including ensuring compliance; developing policies, procedures and best practices; developing a comprehensive vision and strategic plan; serving as a resource person; and ensuring collaborative relationships with various constituents.
Leadership functions for Division of Student Affairs and the University, including serving as a member of the Vice President's Strategic Council; serving as an engaged and collaborative team member among the division's leadership group; serving as a university representative for student crises; leading or assisting with oversight of major campus-wide events or initiatives; and developing reports and managing information.
Applicants should hold a master's degree and have six years of relevant experience or a bachelor's degree and eight years of experience at a minimum.

Terminal degree in an appropriate area and seven to ten years of progressively more responsible professional experience

Demonstrated knowledge of and progressively more responsible experience in advising student organizations and implementing student organization support activities (including but not limited to registration, risk management, and related legal issues), preferably at a major public university
Demonstrated knowledge and experience advising and administering a large and diverse sorority and fraternity system on a university campus
Demonstrated experience in crisis management
Demonstrated experience with and ability to develop and implement training in a variety of student organization/student leadership topics
Demonstrated knowledge of and proficiency with computers and basic software applications
Demonstrated interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment
Demonstrated planning, organization, and communication skills (oral and written)
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
