The Finance and Accounting Manager is responsible for all areas relating to financial accounting and reporting. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining systems to ensure adherence to GAAP and maintaining procedures and internal controls that ensure accurate and timely financial statements. This position addresses rigorous deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger, student billing and other accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets accounting, account analysis and reconciliation, financial reporting, compliance with various regulatory agencies, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities. The Accounting Manager will have contact with the Controller and Chief Financial Officer which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.
Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close.
Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
Assist the Controller in the daily banking requirements.
Ensure the accurate and timely processing of positive pay transactions.
Ensure compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner.
Supports budget and forecasting activities.
Collaborates with the other Business Office members to support overall department goals and objectives.
Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
Responds to inquiries from the Chief Financial Officer, Controller, and other managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like.
Work with the Controller to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit.
Supervise the general ledger to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met.
Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
Support Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements.
Assist in the compilation of information for the school’s tax filings

Experience and Qualifications Desired:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
At least 3 years of related work experience and/or training
Exceptional analytical and accounting skills
Attention to detail and accuracy
Experience working in an academic setting preferred
Must be able to maintain strict and absolute confidentiality, and exercise discretion
Must be able to work with and lead others effectively
