The Manager of Facilities position within the College reports to the Associate Vice President Administration and Finance. The Manager of Facilities will be directly responsible for the leadership, organization, management and operations of the Charlestown campus, Buildings A – G, M and the Mailroom. The Manager of Facilities will oversee the maintenance of the Charlestown buildings and grounds complex.
Coordinate with the Associate Vice President Administration and Finance to manage, and administer departmental efforts associated with the maintenance and repair of buildings, structures, equipment, landscaped grounds, roads, walkways, parking lots, college owned vehicles and all other college assets associated with the Charlestown campus
Prepare and maintain annual inspection reports of building condition assessments. Provide reports to Executive Director Facilities Planning, Construction and Energy Management at the end of the calendar year
Prepare, review with Associate Vice President Administration and Finance and submit reports required by the Commonwealth, Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance, Sightlines, LBE, DHE and any and all agencies of the Commonwealth requesting data
Manage and mentor BHCC Facilities staff that is directly or indirectly responsible for the maintenance of building interiors, grounds and janitorial and custodial services in Charlestown
Develop a facilities department one year and five year preventative maintenance plan to address mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection (MEPFP) programs; prepare building and equipment assessments through standardized inspection process
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations, environmental and safety procedures, and the College’s policies and procedures.
Develop, prioritize and manage the Facilities Management budget with the Associate Vice President Administration and Finance for the Charlestown campus; monitor funds and track expenditures in accordance with established BHCC policies and procedures
Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in service to staff, faculty and students and to the Mission of the College
Accountable for Charlestown Facilities staff direct reports; implement and execute supervisory responsibilities in accordance with College policies including AFSCME Contract, State and Federal laws and guidelines
Responsibilities may include participating in the process of interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
Communicate with Executive Director Facilities Planning, Construction and Energy Management and Associate Vice President Administration and Finance during inclement weather and emergencies to coordinate on site activities
Perform other duties as appropriate
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
5 years supervisory experience in facilities management
Demonstrated knowledge of sustainable building practices and commitment to sound environmental and socially conscious management of the built environment
A record of effective leadership and management skills
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Record of effective operational budget preparation, management and reporting
Working knowledge of preventative maintenance methods and scheduling, fire safety, life safety, hazardous materials disposal
Knowledge of building, electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems
Demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships with local, state inspection authorities
Experience working in a union environment and managing union staff
Higher Education experience
