The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking a dynamic, collaborative leader to be its Director of University Space Management. UNC Charlotte is a fast growing Research University with a student population of over 29,000 and over 9 million square feet of facilities. The University is expected to grow to 35,000 students in the next decade. Located on 1000 suburban acres in the northern section of Charlotte, North Carolina, the campus has 105 buildings housing classrooms, faculty/staff offices, teaching and research laboratories, a variety of one-of-a-kind learning/exploration spaces, and student success facilities. Holistic and integrated campus planning is vitally important to the success of the University's mission and its continued growth. The successful candidate will lead the University's efforts to develop UNC Charlotte as a nationally recognized campus of distinction.
The Director of University Space Management is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the UNC Charlotte integrated space management program. The position ensures that campus space is utilized efficiently and effectively, and will ensure that the allocation of all space meets the highest and best use in the context of institutional strategic priorities.
Most importantly, the ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership competencies in building successful teams, building partnerships, facilitating change, managing conflict, and building trust. Taking the initiative, developing creative solutions, anticipating and solving problems are vital attributes. Focus on continuous improvement is essential for success in this position.
The Director will report directly to the Director of Facilities Planning and with a dotted line report to the Senior Associate Provost.
A Masters' degree in business or public administration, building science, engineering, community/urban planning, or architecture, or Bachelor's degree and equivalent experience is required. Certification/licensure in business or public administration, building science, architecture, engineering, or community/urban planning is required. A minimum of six years of experience in directly managing commercial and/or educational property, facilities space management, campus planning, building design, facilities management, statistical analysis, or a combination of these experiences from which comparable knowledge and abilities is required.
