About the Minerva Schools at KGI
Do you love higher education but don’t want to work in a bureaucratic environment? Do you think traditional higher education is outdated and needs to be both more relevant and affordable for students? Then come join Minerva and help us build a 21st century institution of higher learning. You'll be part of a small, nimble team comprised of highly motivated and talented people working to make higher education affordable and student centric.
Minerva, based in San Francisco, California, offers a unique undergraduate experience for the brightest, most motivated students in the world. Minerva has been deliberately designed to teach the capabilities needed to solve complex challenges. Combining a reinvented curriculum, rigorous academic standards, cutting-edge technology, and an immersive global experience, Minerva provides an exceptional and accessible education to prepare future leaders and innovators across all disciplines. Minerva formed an alliance with Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) to establish the Minerva Schools at KGI in 2013, a WASC-accredited, four-year, undergraduate institution.
If you are the type of Controller who likes to settle into a steady, rhythmic groove, doing the same thing month in and month out, then this is NOT the job for you.
At Minerva, we are really many different businesses under one umbrella. That means you’ll need to develop deep financial expertise for software development and licensing, real estate and housing, and the gamut of specialized accounting for a higher education institution that includes student loans, work-study, and financial aid. Compound all of that by having contractors and business relationships across four continents, including places like India, Argentina, Korea, and multiple European countries. Did we also mention as a VC-backed startup, we are taking on new international equity and debt investors while simultaneously issuing stock options to our employees? That’s a lot to learn! We guarantee that you will be constantly challenged, learning, and will never end up going through the motions.
If you think you are up to the challenge of being this sort of quasi financial consultant and Controller all at once, then we want to speak with you! This is a working manager position, so you should be comfortable both managing a small accounting team and working hand-ons with our accounting tools and software.
