The Budget Analyst works independently under the general supervision of the Director of Accounting and the Vice President for Finance to fulfill the responsibilities of the position as listed below. The position requires a strong understanding of and experience in the application of business management principles as well as accounting principles, and the ability to apply those principles in a broad variety of settings.
The Budget Analyst must possess the experience, knowledge and ability to collaborate with senior level personnel of the college and the board of trustees. It is expected that the Budget Analyst can present and represent the financial and business operations of the college to external stakeholders in business settings. It is expected that the Budget Analyst will provide leadership and guidance to internal stakeholders regarding best business practices and continuous process improvement in all job-related activities.
Excellent skills in linking budget development to strategic analysis. Must have strong computer experience, including spreadsheet and database applications. Competency in practical applications of generally accepted accounting principles of fund accounting for colleges and governmental entities. Knowledge of Kansas Statutes pertaining to the accounting and the internal controls required for community colleges. Ability to manage multiple priorities. Strong written and oral communication skills required.
Five years of experience with accounting systems, budget analysis, financial analysis and establishment of financial controls. Substantial experience in a position demonstrating excellent analytical skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats. Experience with continuous quality improvement preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, business administration or related business field is required.
