The Director of Finance for University Facilities will provide leadership and development for the continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives, provide timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasts and will take a hands-on lead in developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive job cost system. The position will oversee all aspects of the Finance & Accounting functions of the organization and will evaluate and advise on the impact of long range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies and regulatory action. Incumbent must be team oriented, strategic thinking, and innovative.
Responsibilities include: • Establish and maintain strong relationships with University Facilities staff and Facility Project Managers so as to identify their needs and seek full range of business solutions. Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and ability to support and enhance a team-based environment. • Provide University Facility management team with advice on the financial implications of business activities. • Manage processes for financial forecasting, budgets, consolidation, reporting and provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities. • Ensure effective internal controls are in place and in compliance with financial standards and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial reporting. Work directly with project leadership to ensure risks are managed, project controls are well established, and project information is reported and reviewed for timely insight and decision making. • Direct and provide oversight of all aspects of the Finance & Accounting functions of the organization including working directly with operations team to oversee portfolio of projects and provide support to project risk management as well as ongoing performance monitoring and critical reviews at the enterprise level. • Mentor key finance & accounting staff and advise and support senior management. • Demonstrate success with operations in addition to accounting/finance. Develop and track all non-operations budget elements. Manage and ensure proper communication between Operations and Finance, including communication regarding Project Set-up, Billing, and reporting. Manage the alignment of payroll reporting with ongoing operations, staff adjustments, salaries/billable rates, and billable hours across all divisions. • Demonstrate ability and willingness to problem solve and think critically. • Evaluate the success of the organization using a set of strategically important measures to determine the level of success that the organization is experiencing. Use both measurable and non-measurable aspects of the work environment to gauge other aspects of business success.
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or other equivalent field required. Ten (10) or more years in progressively responsible financial leadership roles, preferably in real estate development, property management and/or construction industry is required.
Advanced knowledge of finance policies, practices and systems and an understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources. Ability to present complex finance related information in a clear and concise manner, both in writing and verbally. In depth ability to use multiple spreadsheet and database software tools to gather information for specialized, complex financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally using tact and diplomacy, both orally and in writing, with faculty, staff, students, administrative officials, and the community at large regarding policy, procedures, human resource, financial and operational issues. Ability to make independent decisions, analyze situations, solve problems and initiate actions for the effective management of a large and complex organization on a variety of issues. Knowledge & experience of business and accounting operations, OMG Circulars & the principles of fund accounting and of governing internal controls.
