UMBC has an exciting career opportunity available within the Student Affairs Division for an experienced student affairs professional. The Director of Student Affairs, Administrative and Business Services (SAABS), reporting directly to the Vice President of Student Affairs (VPSA), under minimal supervision, oversees and manages day to day administrative and financial operations in Division of Student Affairs. Major responsibilities include administration, budget and finance, personnel, liaison, and compliance. The Director of (SAABS) directly and indirectly supervises staff, provides leadership and day to day management of the Division’s finance, administrative and budget operations, human resources, procurement, and audit requirements for the Division. The Division of Student Affairs is comprised of state funds, foundation accounts, private funds, self support funds and a complex, auxiliary budget. In conjunction with Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director of (SAABS) is responsible for developing and managing an annual operating budget in excess of $50 million. The Director of SAABS, serves as a resource and support for division Directors as they manage fiscal and administrative oversight. The Director of SAABS meets regularly with Student Affairs Directors and support staff to ensure compliance with University, divisional and department audit control and prepares divisional/departmental internal control procedures and guidelines. The Director of SAABS acts as an audit liaison for the Division and oversees and monitors internal control functions in all areas. The Director of SAABS utilizes knowledge of procurement, personnel/payroll, accounting and auditing policies, regulations, and guidelines to efficiently and effectively manage the processing of business transactions and to develop and implement new practices and procedures for the Division of Student Affairs. This position requires a high level of technical skill, knowledge and judgment applying effective business management principles to a wide array of difficult and unique problems. The Director of SAABS prepares fiscal and other relevant reports as requested by the VP of Student Affairs and divisional Directors. The Director of SAABS serves as liaison to university departments and external agencies and acts as department representative on departmental and University-wide committees.

Master’s required in Business, Finance, HR or other related fields. 10 years experience in budget management, finance, human resources, audit principles or related area. Experience in staff supervision and unit management strongly desired. Must be able to interact effectively with staff, students, internal and external offices. This position requires a high level of technical skill, knowledge and judgment utilizing effective business management principles to a wide array of difficult and unique problems. Experience with PeopleSoft preferred.
