Plan, direct, and oversee all aspects of the University's Accounting Services, Vendor Payables and Cash Management, Student Service Center and Financial Services including oversight of accounts receivable, cash receipting, and credit collections. Oversee all aspects of accounting services provided to the NMU Foundation. Responsible for the preparation of financial reports for both organizations including the University's and NMU Foundation's audited financial statements, other audited financial statements as required by external agencies, tax returns including the University's unrelated business income tax return (990T) and the Foundation's information return (990) filed with the Internal Revenue Service, other grant and contract regulatory filings, and vendor and customer reporting. Maintain the University's and the Foundation's fiscal records including the general ledger and related financial modules in the University's database system. Assist with treasury and investments, and managing all bond filings, issuance, and reporting. Provide financial analysis for the Vice President of Finance and Administration.
This position is traditionally Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm with some evening and weekend work required.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. C.P.A or Masters degree required. Seven years of experience in financial management with increasing responsibilities. Three years of experience managing professional staff. Financial experience in a non-profit or governmental setting.
Knowledge/skills/abilities required: Knowledge of accounting software, financial analysis software, and database user interface and query software (such as SQL). Strong computer skills including experience working with Excel. Experience with automated financial and accounting reporting systems. Knowledge of FASB, GASB, and GAAP. Must have high attention to detail in monitoring work quality and accuracy of team members. Strong leadership skills and ability to build and manage effective teams. Adaptable and collaborative approach to working as a member of a team in a fast-paced environment. Effective decision-making, problem solving, and critical thinking skills. Ability to deal with a continuously changing environment. Solid verbal and written communication skills. Effective listening skills.
The targeted salary range is $97,500 - $110,000.
