SUPERVISES: Controller, Executive Assistant and Directors of Physical Plant, Administrative Services & Student Accounts, Food Service, and Security
Plans, organizes, and controls the financial and business operations of the College. Manages the business and financial affairs of the College to keep the President and Board of Trustees apprised of the College’s financial condition.
Manages College-wide financial operations to achieve goals developed for and approved by the Board of Trustees; directs financial operations, allocates resources, develops budget assumptions, monitors budgets, and financial activities including long and short term debt.
Provides financial planning leadership and direction and develops short and long-range plans, goals, and objectives for College-wide financial programs; gathers, interprets and prepares data for studies, reports and recommendations.
Chairs budget committee in the preparation of the annual budget for approval by the President.
Monitors the annual budgets to ensure spending by all departments and entities is within their allocation of resources.
Directs the risk management programs for the College; coordinates with carriers for coverage and administrative services; monitors and evaluates programs for potential liability; recommends modifications and improvements in methods and procedures in order to reduce liability.
Along with the President, serves as liaison to the Board of Trustees for financial and business related matters.
Oversees security and campus safety and serves as chair of the Safety Committee.
In consultation with the President and Director of Human Resources, reviews health and welfare benefit programs provided by the College. Serves as the Plan Administrator/Sponsor for the College’s Retirement Plan.
Oversees the College’s Physical Plant (union shop), campus maintenance, and construction.
Directs the development and maintenance of systems and records that provide for the proper evaluation, control and documentation of assigned operations; prepares or oversees the preparation of reports and correspondence as required.
Directs the resolution of inquiries, problems, or complaints regarding the availability or quality of services; responds to the most sensitive or complex inquiries or service complaints. Reviews the effectiveness and financial worth of all outsourced entities.
Provides department and College representation regarding program-related issues on various committees and other public meetings; promotes community awareness and support for West Virginia Wesleyan College.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the President.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Extensive knowledge of principles and practices of financial management including investments and the development of an operating budget.
Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local policies, procedures, and regulations applicable to areas of assignment.
Ability to develop and implement short and long-range plans to meet financial needs of the College.
Ability to prepare and direct the preparation of reports and correspondence.
Ability to analyze and evaluate financial operations and develop and implement corrective action to resolve problems.
Familiarity with USDA lending programs preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Willingness to be a collaborative, team player in all aspects of College decision making.
Five years of senior level higher education leadership experience and master’s degree in a Business-related field are required. CPA is preferred.
