The Director of Student Accounts is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of Student Accounts. He/she manages the payment, financial aid disbursement, refund, and collections operations and is responsible for developing all relevant policies and procedures. With the Associate Vice President for Finance/Controller, he/she must develop and implement effective management procedures to assure compliance with all regulations and University policies and procedures. The Director must be aware of all federal regulations relating to disbursement and refund of student aid, must advise his/her colleagues of regulatory changes and interpretations, and will manage the Student Accounts response to those changes. Supports University mission with customer-service oriented Student Accounts strategies.
Duties will include:
Responsible for operations of Cashier and Student Accounting Offices, direction of outsourced loan administration and bill servicing and multi-departmental customer service initiatives.
Manages personnel in Cashier and Student Accounting Offices and in loan administration functions. Conducts extensive staff training.
Plans, develops, and executes process improvement and quality control in own department; guides other departments in functions that interface with Student Accounting Services.
Integrates Resident Life, Dining Services, and Auxiliary Services functions into the University Student Accounts system. Develops both systems applications and supporting interdepartmental procedures.
Develops and implements internal control procedures for billing, financial aid, student refunds, etc. Controls student billing and accounting system, including system modification and testing, development of new billing schemes for various programs, and creation of reporting system.
Develops and implements eCommerce functions, such as on-line payment channels and electronic statements.
Interfaces with IT on all system-related processes; represents department on committee that guides interdepartmental technology use.
Participates in planning and implementation of new academic initiatives that impact student accounting infrastructure and require Student Accounting Office’s administrative support.
Resolves student billing inquiries and customer service issues within framework of FERPA.
Provides guidelines and decisions for third party payment plan, account collection, and loan service groups.
Develops and enforces strategies for resolving account balances that are in arrears.
Reconciles student account postings with Financial Aid department and other units.
Participates in inter-departmental groups, both ad-hoc and permanent, that encompass Student Accounting Office’s mission and functions.
Prepares account reconciliations.
Monitors student receivable aging.
Assists in preparation of annual financial statements and interact with University’s external audit firm.
Assures that all vital functions are covered during absence of staff members.
Other duties as needed by the Controller.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business equivalent
3+ years’ experience in similar position in education and/or industry
Must display mastery of automated accounting systems and ability to define and manage data requirements.
Ability to complete multiple and complex tasks with the highest degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Excellent communication, management and problem solving skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office software package.
Excellent presentation skills including effective written and oral communication.
Must possess working knowledge of Department of Education Title IV Regulations.
The finalist will be required to successfully pass a background check.
