This position is directly responsible for leading all aspects of the budget process for University Advancement and The Ohio University Foundation’s unrestricted fund, including developing and compiling the budget, reviewing budget requests for reasonableness, monitoring actual revenues and expenses against budgeted amounts, analyzing budget to actual variances, and forecasting actual activity. The position also monitors and reviews University Advancement’s financial processes, identifies and recommends process improvements, documents revised processes, and provides financial process training to University Advancement staff. In addition, the position facilitates, reviews and approves various financial transactions incurred by University Advancement.
1. Leads all aspects of the budget process for University Advancement and The Ohio University Foundation’s unrestricted fund. This includes developing and compiling the budget, reviewing and analyzing budget requests for reasonableness, recommending potential cost savings, and monitoring actual revenues and expenses against budgeted amounts. Prepares budget reports for University Advancement department managers and assists with monitoring departments’ actual activity against the budget. Analyzes budget to actual variances, prepares forecasts of actual activity, and composes budget narratives for presentation to management and/or the board of trustees.
2. Facilitates, reviews and approves various financial transactions incurred by University Advancement. Advises University Advancement staff on the proper and consistent use of chart of account segments to enhance financial reporting and trend analysis capabilities. Reviews activity to ensure transactions are recorded in correct accounts and properly substantiated as having an appropriate University business purpose. Identifies accounting errors and prepares accounting corrections, as needed.
3. Monitors and reviews University Advancement’s financial procedures, including expense processing and preparation of sales revenue deposits. Identifies and recommends process improvements, as needed. Documents and communicates revised processes, and provides financial process training to University Advancement staff.
4. Other duties as assigned.
This position will work generally independently and exercise a great deal of judgment. The successful candidate must be resourceful and able to work autonomously to solve various problems.
This position will routinely interact with individuals in other University departments and must be able to provide guidance and oversight through a comprehensive knowledge of financial, human resource and operational data, as well as university policy and procedures.
