ROLE of the POSITION
The Executive Director for Strategy and Strategic Communications is part of the senior leadership team in the Finance & Business Division, reporting directly to the Vice President & CFO, University of Nevada, Las Vegas. This position collaborates with the VP-CFO and divisional leadership to set the strategic direction and drive success for the organization and is responsible for planning, communicating, executing and evaluating the division strategic plan and goals to support the institutional Top Tier initiative.
The ED-SSC fosters a culture conducive to developing talent aligned with organizational goals and ensures a collaborative, open and inclusive work environment focused on high-quality outcomes and superior service orientation. As the divisional communications and messaging expert, this position leads the development of multi-channel communication strategy to brand the division and to foster clarity, transparency and unity of purpose. This position also serves as a role model to staff across the university, representing the division and UNLV in a positive manner both within and outside the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES
Collaborates with the VP-CFO, divisional leadership and other university stakeholders to set the strategic direction for the division, including providing clear expectations, drive innovative solutions, and provide resources to encourage and support effective leadership in order to ensure the successful achievement of UNLV's Top Tier initiative.
Collaborates with the VP-CFO and divisional leadership to establish division professional development programs to expand skills, motivate staff and to support the growth and long-term success of the division and UNLV.
Working with VP-CFO and division senior leadership, develops, reviews and monitors division strategic action plans and performance outcomes to assure attainment of division objectives and goals.
Leads the divisional process, under the leadership of the VP-CFO and in collaboration with division senior leadership, to foster a culture of accountability and innovative thought leadership for achieving plans and performance targets.
Develops and executes a multi-channel communication strategy to brand the division, to foster operational effectiveness and to create a common understanding of strategic initiatives and progress. Includes management of the division website, and publication of business operations guides, in collaboration with each of the business units.
Builds and supports effective collegial relationships with applicable internal and external stakeholders and organizations, ensuring and fostering a high level of collaboration to develop partnerships, coordinate activities, review work, exchange information and/or resolve problems. Promotes and models positive relationships among various entities.
Working with VP-CFO and division senior leadership, integrates new and innovative operations and services. Assures timely decision-making reflective of the mission, vision and values of UNLV.
Serves as a staff resource to the VP-CFO and, in this capacity, leads special projects and develops reports on strategic initiatives for internal and external audiences, as necessary.
This position requires a bachelor's degree in communication, management, policy or related field from a regionally accredited college or university and at least 10 years' experience in communications, business or operations management in a higher education platform.
Demonstrated skills in the following areas are required:
Organizational communication and development, strategic planning and system implementation, including website development and maintenance
Leading and managing organizational change in a higher education environment
Creating and nurturing an environment that encourages strategic risk-taking
Empowering staff to achieve the mission and strategic goals and creating an open, collegial, service-oriented environment
Crafting a vision of the future that motivates optimal productivity, collaboration and results-orientation
Strong interpersonal and verbal communications skills, excellent writing proficiency and an executive demeanor
Preferred Qualifications: An advanced degree in communication, management, policy or related field.
