Associate Controller – Accounting and Financial Reporting (WDR-00012094)
The Associate Controller – Accounting and Financial Reporting, based on general direction from the University Controller, is responsible for the management of the operations of Cornell University's accounting and financial reporting functions.
The position works closely with campus leadership, to establish the strategic direction and priorities for financial policies and reporting. This key position leads and/or participates in projects with university stakeholders (including Weill Cornell Medicine) to help ensure accurate and effective GAAP based financial statements (including the audited financial statements), on-going reviews for improved consistencies, efficiencies and effectiveness with emphasis on meeting unit (whether division, college or department) and “executive” needs (whether VP, Dean, Department Chair or faculty) for financial reporting. The Associate Controller is responsible for staying current on regulatory and other issues affecting accounting and reporting and understanding at a high level the mission and operations of major units across campus. The position supervises the Manager of Accounting, Plant Accounting, and a Senior Financial Analyst.

Seven to ten years of experience in financial accounting, analysis and management with preferred experience in the university arena with demonstrated expertise in accounting standards required. CPA required; MBA or equivalent required.
This position requires a high degree of integrity, diplomacy, professional competence, organization team building capability, successful problem solving experience and a demonstrated ability to lead and manage change.
The individual must operate effectively with little direct supervision, exercise judgment demonstrate self-direction and initiative.
Evidence of ever increasing responsibility, developing an effective staff and cross functional teams and defining and meeting goals is also required.
This position requires excellent organizational and communication skills -- both written and oral.
An ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with university administration (including upper management), staff, faculty, and students as well as external contacts.
