The Head of Operations & CFO will plan and execute the strategies to support and lead the initiatives relating to best business and management practices throughout the institution. He/She will work closely with the Head of Schools and his staff, fully capable of participating in all aspects of financial and day-to-day operation. Finally, the selected candidate will serve, as do all members of the faculty and staff, as a support person for co-curricular activities, which may include mentoring, dorm supervision, and/or activity sponsorship.
Reporting directly to the Head of Schools and serving as a member of his senior leadership team, the selected candidate will be responsible for managing the business/financial function of the school as well as providing management and oversight for other departments, including Finance & Accounting, Facilities, Information Technology, the Health Center, Food Services, Human Resources, and the Horsemanship Department.
The Head of Operations & CFO will be tasked to plan, direct, and coordinate all aspects of the finance function. Some specifics will include but are not limited to the following responsibilities:
Maintain the school’s financial integrity by providing strong oversight of the financial controls, measurements, and accounting, including financial systems.
Working with the Head of Schools and his staff, develop and gain approval for the annual operating plan and budget.
Provide management and oversight of the school’s endowment, including coordinating and supporting the investment activities of the school at the direction of the Finance and Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees.
Provide leadership, management, and oversight to other departments of the Academies, including Facilities, Food Services, the Health Center, Horsemanship, Information Technology and Human Resources.
Ensure development of internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and
The successful candidate will ideally be a former CFO and a current operating head for a secondary boarding school or university.
This person will have strong business judgement and a demonstrated track record of effectively managing complex issues.
Outstanding analytical skills, a high degree of intellectual curiosity, and the ability to engage with the leadership team of the school as well as its Board of Trustees regarding complex management issues.
Proven skills in establishing a team- and goal-oriented environment that empowers staff through active communication and delegation, and that builds confidence, promotes diversity of thought, and celebrates achievements.
Superior communication skills with exemplary interpersonal and listening skills and the ability to connect with a variety of audiences.

An undergraduate degree is required, a CPA designation is a plus and an advanced degree is desirable.
