Suffolk University is seeking qualified candidates to consider for the Director of Budget and Financial Planning (DBFP) position. The Director plays a key role in the management of Suffolk University's finances. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to preparing the University's annual budget and long-term financial modeling, monitoring expenses throughout the fiscal year, and providing support to the Administration and Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees, the Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration/Treasurer (SVPFA), and Associate Vice President of Finance. The DBFP supervises three staff members within the Budget Office.
The DBFP prepares materials for the Administration and Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees as well as for the Associate Vice President of Finance and Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration/Treasurer. The DBFP collaborates with the Controller's Office on preparing the internal financial reporting package for senior management, including year-end results forecast and responds to requests from internal and external constituents for financial data.
In the management of the annual operating and capital budget processes, the DBFP prepares the proposed operating and capital budgets, which includes overseeing the development of the labor portion of the annual budget and the uploading of the entire budget into the Colleague system. The operating budget is prepared and presented for approval in the audited statement of activities (GAAP) format, which requires familiarity with GAAP and restricted / endowed funds. In addition, the DBFP oversees analysis of actual to budget performance throughout the year.
The DBFB works with the Provost, academic deans, senior vice presidents, directors, the Dean of Students and the Director of Residence Life in the development of the next year's tuition, room and board rates. The DBFP oversees the dissemination of the approved rates to the University's community on both the Boston campus and the Madrid campus.
Effectively manage the Budget Office team. Recruit, train and mentor staff. Set performance plans, monitor progress and complete annual written appraisals; provide and promote appropriate professional development and learning experiences, support and provide direction. Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Maintain and provide continuous improvements to the university's long-term financial modeling to support senior leadership in strategic decision making.
The DBFP will continue to develop Adaptive Insights, the University's budget software system. In addition, the DBFP will seek to utilize existing systems to continue to automate financial processes and evaluate system enhancements and/or new systems for additional functionality and efficiency.
Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting, at least 10 years of experience at a professional level in a university or non-profit budget analysis and forecasting function, experience supervising staff. MBA or CPA preferred. Strong facility with financial application technology, with proficiency in the following software or a comparable system preferred: Microsoft Office Suite Datatel/Colleague UI-GUI (University mainframe) Synoptix and Informer (financial reporting) Workday (HR and Payroll) Adaptive Insights (or similar budget software system) Working at Suffolk
