Provide vision and leadership to a professional audit staff.
Work effectively with the NAU executive team, managers, external auditors, the ABOR Audit Committee, and others.
Perform and document annual risk assessments of NAU to inform the IARB and the Audit Committee of significant risks.
Prepare risk-based annual audit plans based on the annual risk assessment and input of Regents and senior administrators.
Execute the annual audit plan.
Recommend improvements in internal controls to assist the university in meeting its strategic goals.
Establish and maintain internal audit operating policies and procedures.
Supervise internal auditors to ensure audit objectives are met and supported by sufficient, reliable, relevant, and useful information.
Evaluate the performance of internal auditors in accordance with NAU policies.
Keep the FIPA VP, IARB, and Audit Committee informed of the results of audits and the status or resulting corrective actions.
Ensure internal auditors have the training and technology tools needed to perform their work effectively.
Attend and participate in Audit Committee meetings.
Provide audit reports and other required material to the ABOR system office in advance of Audit Committee meetings.
Present completed audits to the IARB.
Review the Audit Charter annually and suggest revisions to the IARB Audit Committee when warranted.
Maintain a quality assurance and improvement program.
Obtain an external assessment of internal audit at least every five years. The next one is due by June 30, 2019.
Recruit and retain highly qualified audit staff.
Recommend an audit budget adequate to accomplish Audit's mission.
Track the status of audit recommendations until implemented.
Perform other duties as assigned.

7 or more years in auditing or accounting, of which 4 or more years are in a managerial role.
CPA license or CIA certification.
Graduate degree related to government or business administration.
4 or more years working in a higher education environment.
Additional audit-related certifications such as CISA.
